GOLF AUSTRALIA MATCH PLAY INDEX
The difference in Daily handicap between the players determines the number of strokes the lower handicap golfer gives the higher handicap golfer.
Those strokes are given in accordance with the MATCH index below. This is based on the order the holes are played and not the course stroke index.
The index should be adapted when a match commences at any other hole on the course other than the first. Hole Number 1 in the recommendation should apply to the first hole played, Hole 2 to the second hole played, etc.
EXAMPLE
if the difference is 5, one stroke would be given on Match Index numbers up to 5. When starting from the First tee of the course, the strokes would be given on holes 4,8,10,12 and 16.
If starting the match on the 10th hole of the course the 10th hole is the first in the Order of play so the stroke would be given on the 13th, 17th 1st,3rd, 7th
In the event the number of strokes exceeds 18, the higher handicapped would receive 1 stroke on each hole played and then a second stroke on the balance of the handicap difference. Eg 24 strokes would be one on every hole (18) plus 6 more on holes with a Match index up to 6.
